much for the info. you sent. This has to be the same John R. My John Ray was

1842, that said Joseph W. was now full age. My Joseph William was born Nov.17,
1820, which would make him 22. Also family tales say there was an "old Joe

This database of Virginia marriages to 1800 contains over 85,000 names. Each
entry includes groom, bride, marriage date, county, and state. Every name is
indexed so you can search for one name, or two names that are linked. The
marriage date is usually the date of marriage as given in the original entry.
However, when no marriage date is given (e.g., the "marriage return"
was not provided to the record keeper), the date of the license is used. In a
few cases, a marriage will be listed twice, but in two different counties. This
most often happened when a couple obtained a license in one
county, but were actually married in another. These marriage records, compiled
by Liahona Research at the LDS Family History Library
in Salt Lake City, UT, unfortunately do not contain citations for the origin of
each entry. The purpose of this database is to provide a time and place for as
many
marriages as possible. It is up to the researcher to examine original records
(see the Family History Library Catalogavailable
at any LDS family history center under the heading "Vital Records"
for the appropriate locality) and gather whatever additional genealogical
information is desired

Your GenWeb posting caught my
attention. I have been working for a couple of years on my husband's Dunn
family, and am stuck at his gg grandparents,
Hiram R. b. about 1800/GA and Letitia Greer Dunn of
Greene Co GA. Their children were Dr. William. G. Dunn (married Martha A. Woodall
of Taliafferro Co 1857), Eliza Ann Dunn Gant, Mary E.
Dunn Alfriend, Sarah F. Dunn
Alfriend, John Thomas Dunn (married Laura E. Blacnhard 1862 in Taliaferro Co), and James Beeman Dunn (my husband's g grandfather) (married Mary E.
??, date ??, can find no record of marriage). In my research, your Gatewood and Waters Dunn keep coming up nearby and the name
Briscoe also. I do know that Hiram had a brother living in Greene Co. -
James who was married to
Elizabeth Greer (probably Letitia's sister). After James's
death, it appears Elizabeth married John Briscoe in 1858. I found a
"marriage contract" between Elizabeth and John where it is
acknowledged that what is hers will go to Hiram's children as decreed in
James' will, despite her
subsequent marriage to John Briscoe. I find Elizabeth's gravesite at Bethany
Church Cemetery, Greene Co., with the inscription, "Mrs. Elizabeth
Briscoe/formerly ________(I feel certain formerly Mrs. James Dunn)/died
October 6, 1860/ in the 64th year (b. 1804)/stone collapsed next to
hers not readable (I feel it is James's). Do my Dunn's fit into any of your
research? I am most eager to find out Hiram R. Dunn's parentage. A 1880 census
did indicate his parents were born in VA. This is all I know. Among many leads
I have tried to check out, I have looked into the Waters and Gatewood Dunn's families with no luck so far. I even have
secured copies of wills of Waters and Gatewood,
trying to make a connection, but with no luck so far.
