Marriage record of Elizabeth and Jefferson Vickers.

Jefferson Vickers, born 1818/19. Lived in Monticello, Jasper Co. GA, (taken from Baldwin in 1807) and died Nov 24, 1894, Rison, Cleveland Co. Arkansas. He married

1. Sarah Ann Braden, Talladega Co., Alabama, Dec 19, 1839 and she died Oct 19, 1867

2. Mary Elizabeth Neil, d/o Columbus Neil, Apr 24, 1870, Brandon, Rankin Co., MS.

He fought in the Creek Indian Wars as Private in Capt. Sledge’s Co. Maj. Julius C. Alford’s Battalion, Georgia Mounted Vols. (Knoxville Agency).

He enlisted at LaGrange, Troup Co. GA for three months, beginning June 7, 1836 and mustered out Sept. 2, 1836, (He got sick in camp). Written on his record at Agency in Knoxville:

. Casualties are recorded as having occurred at the following dates and places:

. June 21, 1836- Talbotton, GA.

. July 17,1836- On scout in Alabama on Hatchacheetly Creek.

. July 24, 1836- Ft. McCrary

. July 24, 1836- men killed and wounded in battle, place not stated.

Butts Co. GA Records 1837-1845. Inventory of estate and property of Daniel Curry of Troup Co. GA. Jefferson Vickers was a buyer of this estate.

He lived in Alabama until 1869 and Mississippi until 1887, moved to Arkansas and was there until 1894 when he died. He was listed as fair complexioned, with blue eyes black hair and a farmer.

Jefferson Vickers for $57 –Lot 492. 40 acres NW ¼ of Sect 30, township 22, Range 18 east in Dist of lands subject to sale at Montgomery Ala. containing 39, 72 ½ acres, June 1, 1853.

On February 4, 1893, Mary Elizabeth Neil Vickers made deposition as to her legitimate entitlement to file for pension.
