Note***This entire Family History was sent to me by Allen Cox of Birmingham, Alabama back in 1977 and is the ancestry of his wife, Alice Jeanette Gilbreath, b 1927 in Birmingham.  Therefore since he did all the work, I am submitting this in his name. I do not know if they are living, but we corresponded for a long time. This Samuel Vickers may have been the one who witnessed will of John Vickers in Edgecombe. I am not sure, but he referred to Edgecombe Co., NC deeds.

Samuel Vickers, b 1769 in North Carolina. He marred to Hannah Lowe b 1786, on Aug 5, 1814, and they lived in Warren Co., KY for a time. Children:

 

a. Nancy Ann  b 1815 in Kentucky

b. James Thomas b Oct 11, 1824, KY, died Jul 7, 1886. He married Dec 23, 1846 to Eliza Ann Mansfield, d/o James Mansfield, Jr. and wife Frances (Franky) Greer.

c. Ludenia  b d  married Oct 31, 1844 to Alexander Mansfield

 

James Thomas Vickers  b Oct 11, 1824, died Jul 7, 1886, Barren Co, KY lived at Smith Grove, Warren Co., KY. He married Eliza Ann Mansfield in 1846 and had these children:

 

a. Mary Elizabeth, b Sep 19, 1847, married Sep 6, 1885,  M. F. Crumpton, (as his second wife) at the home of Samuel Vickers.

 

b. Nancy Ann, b Dec 13, 1849, married Dec 24, 1871, Ambrose Baldock, Warren Co., KY, at the home of James Vickers. Ambrose Baldock’s father was Levi Baldock and his mother was Levisa Wilson, d/o Joshua Wilson, Adair Co., KY.

 

c. John Thomas, b Mar 16, 1852, Smith’s Grove, Warren Co., KY, died Jan 2, 1920. He married Elizabeth Alice Baldock, Dec 24, 1874, Beech Grove Church, Barren Co., KY. Children:

 

1. Levisa Ann, b Oct 5, 1875, died May 15, 1917, married Nov 28, 1898 to Edward Broadway.  No children?

 

 2. Mertrue Ewing, b Sep 24, 1877, married Sep 27, 1898 to Pearl Baker

 

3. Fred Houston, b Sep 9, 1880, died Jan 13, 1930, married Dec 10, 1902 to Alice Ann Moore, d/o Gervase Barret Moore and Alice Ashley, who came direct from England and settled in Ohio, near Youngstown. Alice died Apr 17, 1919 at Decatur, Morgan Co. AL. Fred re-married in Aug 1919 to Sally Irene Mealer and had one more child. Fred and Alice lived at Anniston, Ala. Children:

g. Charles Mertrue (Jack), b Mar 14, 1921, child of second wife and he married  Nov 11, 1942 to Edythe Estelle Burns, at Polkston, GA.  He moved to Jacksonville, Florida, was an Industrial Engineer and served in WWII. Edythe was the daughter of Thomas Mathew Burns and Edythe Estelle Cook. They had 4 children:

1. Evelyn Alice, b Jun 1, 1944, Miami, FL, married Feb 16, 1958 to Paul Frederick Benedict, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. They had two children, Paul Gregory b 1972 and Tracy Allison b 1974.  

2. Jacquelyn Estelle, b Nov 24, 1946, Birmingham, AL, married Jun 8, 1968 in Huntsville, AL to Leonard Levell Thrasher at the University Baptist Church.  

3. Charles Thomas, b Jul 11, 1952, Jacksonville, FL.

4. John Michael, b Jul 26, 1964, Huntsville, AL.           

 

4. John Eugene, b Jul 21, 1882, died Jun 7, 1937, married  Sep 3, 1901 to Sabina Satoria. Children:

5. Ruby Frank, b Sep 23, 1884, married Oct 9, 1902 to Charles Modlin- They had two children: Robert, and Loraine who married a Reinjohn.

 

6. Charles Roy, b Jan 3, 1888, died Aug 13, 1975 in Birmingham, Jefferson Co. AL. Married Dec 23, 1908 to Frances Menton Newsome.

Children: Frank Elmo, Edna Lucille, Grace Elizabeth and Roy Wallace.

**The Mansfield family was of John Mansfield and wife Mary of Orange Co. NC, whose son John Jr. b 1725 married Ann Pratt and had sons, John and William. William married Mary Magdalene and had William Jr., b 1770 in Rockingham Co. VA, who married Catherine Feland, Barren Co. KY, They lived in Warren Co. also where Bowling Green is located.

**Note of interest on this: The Shackleford family came from Isle of Wight Co. Virginia and some of them were in South Carolina and married into my Moody family. I do not know if this was part of them or not.  The Pigg family is connected to George Mott of Old Rappahannock Co. VA, as George’s wife was Elizabeth Pigg.
